THE HISTORY OF TOOTHBRUSHES
The history of toothbrushes goes back to Mesopotamia.
During that time, people used chew sticks, bird feathers and bones to clean their teeth.
First brushes that looked similar to ones we use today, appeared in China and from there were brought to Europe by travelers.
It is hard to believe how toothbrush that we know today first appeared somewhere around late 1930-is. Even the bristles were made from a strange material in the past - animals.
The first nylon bristle toothbrush went on sale in 1938.
Before that, not many people washed their teeth at all and in fact, statistics show that only 20% Americans did washed their teeth.
BUT WHEN PEOPLE STARTED TO WASH THEIR TEETH REGULARY?
It was during the World War Two, when army decided to give a toothbrush to every soldier and make it a mandatory obligation as a part of their daily routine. That plastic toothbrush, hasn't really change since then.
Now we all know that is recommended to change our toothbrush ever 2 to 3 months. If, you just calculate, that's a lot of plastic disposed in the nature.
Unfortunately, today plastic toothbrushes are one of the common plastic garbage's in oceans and beaches around the world.

Buying a biodegradable bamboo toothbrush simply means there is at least one less plastic toothbrush floating in the oceans. However, they still need to be disposed or composted properly if you want to make the maximum of your environmental help and friendliness:
1.) After using a single bamboo brush to clean your teeth for about 2 to 3 months, try to first re-using the brush. For example, continue to clean your toilet with it, kitchen equipment etc.
2.) If your bamboo toothbrush bristles already got destroyed, you came to a point of composting. First, you have to dispose bristles separately from the toothbrush handle as they are not biodegradable.
Remove the bristles and put them in a plastic bag (so they don't get lost) and then to a plastic recyclable container.
3.) We recommend putting bamboo handle in your bio-waste bin to be disposed of in an industrial composter. It will break down in a few weeks. You can also put it in your home composter if you have one. (TIP: buried horizontally in the soil, it will take around 3 years!)
IMPORTANT TO KNOW
You have to daily take care of your bamboo brush (dry it properly after every use).
